On the invitation of the Malta Map Society, Mr Hans D. Kok from Holland, the former President of the International Map Society (IMCoS), delivered a very illuminating talk titled ‘Is it a sea chart?’ to the Malta Map Society members and guests at the National Library in Valletta on Wednesday 30 September 2022. After the talk there was the official presentation of 4 facsimile volumes of portolan maps executed by the Maltese pilot Antonio Borg in the second half of the 18th century. The originals are found at the British Library. An exhibition of some of the maps and other important documents found in the portolan atlases was put up so that the people who attended could have a peek of what was inside the atlases.
The talk and presentation was also attended by the Hon. Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, Dr Owen Bonnici.
