The Malta Map Society is very proud to announce that the rare set of four maps of the Great Siege of Malta of 1565 by Giovanni Francesco Camocio have been acknowledged by UNESCO to be included in the International Memory of the World Register. The nomination form had been jointly submitted by Heritage Malta and the Charles University of Prague back in 2016. It was upon the initiative of Dr Eva Novotna’, Head of the Geography Department at the Charles University, and custodian of the vast cartographic collection which includes State 2 of the Camocio Map four-state series, that Heritage Malta teamed up with Prague. Since Heritage Malta owns States 1, 3 and 4 of this Siege set, it took on the role of the leading institution when the application was submitted.
