Activity Connected With The Submission Of 4 Camocio Siege Maps In Unesco’s International Memory Of The World Register 2016

Another activity in which the MMS has taken the initiative and collaborated very actively with Heritage Malta is the submission of the four-state series of siege-maps by Giovanni Camocio for nomination to be listed in Unesco’s International Memory of the World Register. The activity, which was held on 20 May at the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta at 6.30p.m., was titled Siege Maps: How memory is engraved and dealt on the intaglio techniques used to print maps. It complemented the exhibition curated by Ms Bernadine Scicluna, titled Siege Maps: Keeping Memory Safe. In this exhibition the four states of Camocio’s Siege maps were shown. The 1st, 3rd and 4th state are found in Malta and the 2nd state is found at Charles University in Prague. The exhibition was later also moved to Gozo in July at Il-Hagar Museum in Victoria, as part of the Victoria International Arts Festival.
